See Our Progress
Not long ago, someone in our community arrived at Safe Passage with nothing but the clothes they were wearing, quietly asking one question… is it safe for me to stay here?”
Safe Passage is DeKalb County’s only domestic violence and sexual assault crisis center. For almost 45 years, we have walked alongside survivors and their families, providing safety, advocacy, and hope during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
At the heart of our work is a simple belief: everyone deserves to live free from violence.
Each year, Safe Passage provides free and confidential services to hundreds of adults and children across our community. This includes emergency shelter for those fleeing abuse, a 24-hour crisis line, counseling and support groups, as well as legal and medical advocacy. We also work proactively through prevention education in schools and throughout the community, because we believe in not only responding to violence but working toward a future where it no longer happens.
For many survivors, Safe Passage is the first place they turn when they make the incredibly courageous decision to seek help. And in that moment, it is our responsibility to ensure that someone answers the phone, opens the door, and walks alongside them with compassion and care.
As we continue this important work, we are also looking toward the future through our New Beginnings Capital Campaign.
Our current building has served us well, but it is aging and no longer meets the needs of our growing community. The new facility will provide safer, more comfortable shelter spaces, private areas for counseling and healing, and improved support for families and children. It is designed with dignity, safety, and healing in mind.
This is a $7.5 million project, and thanks to the strength of this community, we have already made significant progress, including a $2.5 million federal grant and strong local support from donors and partners.
This new building is more than a structure, it is a promise. A promise that when someone asks, “Is it safe for me to stay here?” the answer will always be “YES”.
We are deeply grateful for the role this community plays in making that possible. Your support, your partnership, and your compassion truly make a difference in the lives of survivors every day.
Because at Safe Passage, and here in DeKalb County: Together We Make a Difference.
